“STOP acting like a baby, and START acting like a mother!” Canadian comedy star, Anne Marie Scheffler, reveals her seventh one-woman show at Theatre Passe Muraille, detailing her sudden thrust into wife-hood and motherhood. Scheffler takes her audience on a hilarious journey of the daily life of a woman who struggles with balancing modern motherhood and a career.
Written by Anne Marie Scheffler with Rosie Shuster, and accompanied by Andy Moro’s stage design, this side-splitting comedy leaps into sudden motherhood and teaches its audience the many lessons that Anne Marie learns along the way, all while providing several moments of laughter and relatable instances for any parent who feels that their hopes and dreams were set aside the moment they became a parent. Scheffler describes her desperate need for “me-time”, and the feeling that a mother’s place in this world is only to serve those who surround her.
Scheffler uses her extensive vocal ability to transform into a variety of characters from her Polish mother to Brad Pitt and Céline Dion; she never ceases to impress the audience with these honest portrayals and her array of character voices.
The minimalistic set allows for Scheffler to take full command of the stage. The set is completely bare save for a bar stool, and the show is brilliantly accented by the lighting design and Anne Marie’s swift and smooth costume changes. Suddenly Mommy! is a laugh-out-loud experience not to be missed!!!
