HROSES (pronounced ‘horses’) is a battle for love that defies all reason. It takes place in a world where paper is grown on crop farms and sugar is mined underground. Meet Lily: the pale granddaughter of a paper matriarch. Lily and her family speak English. Meet Ellery: born during an eclipse of the sun, the son of the sugar miners. Ellery and his family speak French. Lily and Ellery first meet in the no-man’s land between their properties where they discover a horse. The moment they meet is also the moment of their death, in a play that compresses one hundred years into a single moment.
